Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble

JP Super Donkey Kong 3: Mysterious Kremis Island

Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong set off on an adventure in the Northern Kremisphere. Days pass and nothing is heard from them, so a concerned Dixie Kong decides to find out where they went. Turns out that the Northern Kremisphere is crawling with Kremlings, and a new ruler called KAOS has been ruling the land. Dixie is joined by her cousin Kiddy Kong as they set off to confront KAOS in their search for their friends.

Gameplay

You have to make your way to the goal of each stage, facing the challenges and enemies along the way. Each level has hidden bonus stages and DK Coins that you must find to complete your game. This time the DK Coins are in the hands of a particular enemy (Koin) who must be defeated.

Dixie and Kiddy have different physical traits that they need to get through the levels. Dixie can hover with her ponytail, and she is small and light. Kiddy is much larger and stronger, which is useful for tackling big enemies and breaking open cracks. The pair can throw each other into hard-to reach parts of stages. They may also be joined by their Animal Buddies in some stages, who will help them get through puzzles.

On the map screen you can find a lot of friendly characters who will help. Wrinkly Kong saves your game, Funky Kong upgrades your boat to let you travel to new areas of the world map, and Swanky Kong has a bonus game (where you play against Cranky) for extra lives. The map is also home to the Brothers Bear, who have a long trading sequence. You can also find secret caves on the map that contain Banana Birds, which can be collected for the best ending.

Cameos

Wrinkly Kong's Nintendo 64

Wrinkly's Save Cave contains a Nintendo 64, which was released several months before this game.

Sometimes when you enter, she'll be playing it, and the Princess Peach's Castle music from Super Mario 64 will be playing in the background.

This cameo does not appear in the GBA version.

Buy the shell from Bazaar's General Store and then talk to him again. Ask about the castle but refuse to pay for the story. He will tell you that a lad named Link was also asking about the castle, offered to pay him in rupees and then left muttering about the shells being the wrong shape.

This is, of course, Link from The Legend of Zelda series. The comment about the shells may be a reference to the seashells in Link's Awakening.

This cameo does not appear in the GBA version.
