In 1981, Nintendo of America was having trouble staying afloat. They appealed to Hiroshi Yamauchi for a game that would beat everything else on the market. They were dismayed when they heard the project was in the hands a novice designer. That novice designer was Shigeru Miyamoto, and the game was Donkey Kong. It was one of arcade gaming's biggest hits, completely transforming Nintendo's fortunes. DK fever struck again in 1994 with the release of Donkey Kong Country. Donkey Kong remains one of Nintendo's most important franchises twenty years later.
