Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl Stood at the Back

A prequel to the first game in the series, detailing how your character met Shunsuke Utsugi and Ayumi Tachibana and joined Utsugi's Detective Agency.

A 15-year old orphan is found snooping around for information on his parents' deaths by the police, but private detective Shunsuke Utsugi arrives and spares the kid a jail cell. Impressed by your nose for detective work, he takes you under his wing as assistant detective.

Several months later, the pair are sent to investigate the murder of a schoolgirl named Yoko Kojima. She was part of the school's Detective Club, investigating the ghost story of a blood-covered schoolgirl who appears behind her victims before killing them. The police are simultaneously finishing an investigation into the murder of ruthless snack-bar owner Genjiro Kaneda 15 years ago.

You team up with Yoko's best friend Ayumi Tachibana in order to investigate these strange occurrences and try and solve all of the crimes.

The game plays out within a series of text-based menu commands, allowing you to talk to people and examine clues and the environment. A graphic scene accompanies the menus, and you can highlight areas of interest when examining. As you uncover more clues you can progress through the game.

Cameos

Famicom Disk System

In the Super Famicom version, the game starts with a spoof of the original Famicom Disk System loading screen followed by a disclaimer and the original 8-bit title screen. The scene then transforms into the new titles.

As in the original Disk System loading screen, Mario and Luigi appear and fight over the lightswitch.
