The hero of the Mario series and a good all-round fighter. Mario primarily attacks with high jumps, spin attacks and fireballs. He has a new Forward Smash: F.L.U.D.D. appears and sprays a stream of water.
The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Peach attacks with parasols, tennis rackets, frying pans, golf clubs and vegetables, and she can hover in the air for an extended period of time - All referencing her various playable appearances.
The dastardly King of the Koopa turtle tribe. Bowser attacks with claws and his fiery breath. He can hide inside his shell and slam down on the ground. A powerful, but slow, opponent.
Mario's trustworthy dinosaur friend. He has a long tongue and can eat his opponents, trapping them inside eggs. He can also throw eggs, pound the ground and flutter kick from his various solo adventures.
Mario's greedy and gross rival. Wario has a range of strange attacks, from riding a motorcycle to farting. He appears wearing his WarioWare outfit, but you can also select his classic dungarees as well.
Mario's timid brother. Luigi has most of the same attacks as Mario, but they all work a little differently. He can jump higher than his brother, but he slides around the place. His jump recovery is also less than reliable.

The king of the jungle. Donkey Kong is a brute of a character with a long reach. He can pound his enemies into submission and loses no speed when carrying items or other characters.
Donkey Kong's little buddy. Diddy is quick and fierce, but not particularly strong. He attacks with his Peanut Popgun and Rocketbarrel Pack from Donkey Kong 64.
The Hero of Hyrule, and holder of the Triforce of Courage. Link appears in his Twilight Princess form. He attacks with his sword, bombs and the Gale Boomerang, and he can repel enemy projectiles with his shield.
The princess of Hyrule, and holder of the Triforce of Wisdom. Zelda is a noble magic user, and her spells include the powers of the three Goddesses, Din, Nayru and Farore. She can transform into Sheik at any time.
A member of the Sheikah tribe, sworn to protect the Royal Family of Hyrule. Sheik moves like a ninja, both extremely fast and nimble. She attacks using a chain whip and needles. She can transform back into Zelda at any time.
The powerful King of the Gerudo tribe, and holder of the Triforce of Power. Ganondorf is a slow but extremely powerful character who uses physical attacks charged with dark magic. He carries a sword that he never uses.

The Hero of Hyrule as he appeared in The Wind Waker. Toon Link shares many of (adult) Link's attacks, but he is a little more nimble. His lack of experience means many of his attacks work a little differently.
Toon Link will appear as a challenger for all of these conditions. You must defeat him to unlock him.
A Power Suit-enhanced bounty hunter, and heroine of the Metroid series. Samus attacks with a wide range of projectile weapons, such as beams, missiles and bombs. Her Screw Attack can be used to clear opponents around her.
When Samus uses her Final Smash, her Power Suit falls away and she becomes Zero Suit Samus. While a little faster, Samus is not as strong and must rely on her physical attacks and her weak Phazer gun.
The pink puff hero of Dream Land. Kirby is a tough little fighter with a wide range of special abilities. He can turn to rock, use a cutter to recover and fly through the air. He can even suck up his opponents and steal their standing Smash attacks.
A noble warrior of questionable allegiance who often confronts Kirby on his adventures. Meta Knight is a powerful swordsman and his cloak transforms into a pair of bat wings, allowing him to fly like Kirby.
The self-proclaimed king of Dream Land. King Dedede may be greedy, but he's not really a bad guy. He attacks with his giant hammer, and he can suck up air and float like Kirby, or try to suck in his opponents.
The leader of the Star Fox team of mercenaries. Fox uses his Blaster and Reflector when he fights, but he's also very fast and has a wide range of martial arts moves to use in close-up fighting.
Fox's wingman, the cocky Falco, always tries to prove himself the better pilot. He shares many of Fox's attacks, but they work a little differently. Falco is also a superb jumper, given that he's a member of an Avian race.

Star Fox is often sent into battle with rival team Star Wolf, led by Wolf O'Donnell. He is fast and strong, and moves in a unique way. While his attacks are similar to Fox's, he's more adept at using his claws up close.
In order to unlock Wolf, you must satisfy one of the above conditions and then beat Wolf in a brawl.
A cute electric mouse, and mascot of the Pokemon series. Pikachu stores electricity in his cheeks which he uses to attack, whether a little spark or a massive Thunderbolt. He's also quite fast and a small target to hit.
Pokemon Trainer doesn't join the battle himself, but stays in the background and calls out his Pokemon: Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard. He must switch out his Pokemon if they become fatigued.
A Water type Pokemon, and one of the first Pokemon you receive from Professor Oak. Squirtle can store water in his body to use as an attack. He can also withdraw into his shell and spin to clear out the immediate vicinity.
A Grass type Pokemon and the evolved form of Bulbasaur. The large flower on Ivysaur's back stores solar energy that can be used for a Solarbeam attack. He can also attack with vines and seeds.
A Fire/Flying type Pokemon and the final form of Charmander. Charizard is an intimidating winged dragon who uses claws and teeth, as well as his roasting fire breath, to attack. He may even take you down with a Rock Smash.
A rare Psychic/Steel type Pokemon that can sense the auras of those around it. Lucario has a range of physical and aura-based projectile attacks, but they get stronger the more damage Lucario takes.

A cute Normal type balloon Pokemon. Jigglypuff loves to Sing to put her opponents to sleep. She can float through the air, roll around and even use Rest to fall asleep. If Rest hits just right, it can be a devastating move.
In order to unlock JIGGLYPUFF, you must satisfy one of the above conditions and then beat JIGGLYPUFF in a brawl.
A famous bounty hunter and F-Zero Grand Prix champion. Captain Falcon is extremely fast, but he takes some time to charge his powerful attacks, such as Falcon Kick, Falcon Dive and the increasingly famous Falcon Punch.

A nervous boy from the Tazumili islands who has seen more than his fair share of tragedy. Lucas isn't very strong, but he can cast psychic attacks such as PK Fire and PK Freeze. He performs grabs with his Rope Snake.
A young boy from Onett in Eagleland who is tasked with saving the world. He has a range of psychic attacks as well as his trusty baseball bat and yo-yo. Ness has to use his PK Thunder to recover from a fall.

The leader of the Greil Mercenaries. A strong, but slow character, Ike wields the divine sword Ragnell to perform the majority of his attacks. The sword erupts into flames when he unleashes his strongest attacks.
The dethroned prince of Altea. Marth wields the divine sword Falchion to attack. While he isn't particularly strong, Marth is a highly technical fighter, able to perform shield breakers and counter attacks to turn back his opponent's power on them.

A tiny little spaceman who commands an army of plant/animal hybrids known as Pikmin. Olimar himself is not physically strong, but if he calls out enough Pikmin then his attacks become stronger.
The leader of the goddess Palutena's bodyguards. Pit fights with his bow and arrows, but he can separate the bow into two blades for close-up fighting. His wings make him a strong aerial attacker too.
Two mountain climbers: The player controls Popo while the computer controls Nana. Their hammer and ice attacks are stronger if they work together, but if Nana falls then Popo alone isn't very strong.
The Robotic Operating Buddy, an NES peripheral that was used to control the games Stack-Up and Gyromite. R.O.B. spins his body and uses jets on his base to attack. He can also spin and throw Gyros.
