For the Frog the Bell Tolls

The Prince of Sablé and Prince Richard of the Custard Kingdom have long been rivals. When they discover that King Delalin has invaded the Mille-Feuille Kingdom and captured princess Tiramisu, they both set off on a competition to rescue the princess first, and gain favour with the royal family.

As the Prince of Sablé, you view the world from a birds-eye perspective where you can explore and talk to people. In the fields between stages you will come across enemies. You do not battle enemies directly, but enter an automatic battle where the victor is the one with the most hearts. As you progress, you will acquire more hearts in your life bar in order to take on larger enemies and allowing you to advance to new areas of the map. When you become strong enough, some enemies will simply run from you.

The ultimate aim is to infiltrate the Mille-Feuille Kingdom castle, but you can only do this in small sections at a time. The action in the castle, as well as in caves and similar action scenes, is in a side-scrolling platformer perspective. To reach other sections of the castle you have to improve your abilities and take on special transformations.

Early in the game you transform into a frog, with improved jumping power, but reduced attack power. You can also communicate with frogs in this form. Later you can also transform into a snake, allowing you to sneak into small gaps and talk with other snakes.

Cameos

Kazumi Totaka's Song

When you return to Spring Hill village after visiting the castle, a new building will have appeared next to the ship.

Enter the building and wait around for a couple of minutes. The music will eventually stop and Totaka's Song will play.

This easter egg has been hidden in nearly every game the music composer has worked on.

Nantendo

After sailing from Spring Hill, you arrive at an island in the north west of the map where a large corporate building can be found. This is the headquarters of Nantendo.

This is, of course, a reference to Nintendo.
