Advance Wars returns for a third iteration, this time on the Nintendo DS. The Orange Army is back to fight through the warring factions on what has to be the most turbulent continent in the world. The touch-screen is used to control your troops on the ground, while the second screen displays unit information, additional story action, and special CO Powers.
The aim is to defeat the enemy armies by wiping them out or capturing their base. Your units include ground units, tanks, recon vehicles, ships and aircraft of all shapes and sizes. Units have strengths and weaknesses against enemy units that must be considered, and location can also help or hinder your defences.
Two-player games can either be you versus a friend, or you and a friend teaming up against other enemies. The game also has a map creator, which allows for custom battles which can be transferred to other copies of the game.
If you turn on the game with a copy of Advance Wars or Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising in the Game Boy Advance slot of the DS, new maps and wallpapers will be available to buy from Haachi's shop.
