Information

The Ancients are beings that transcend space and time, and their continued existence trapped within the fields of magick keeps the world in order. But all that is about to change. A Roman centaurian named Pious plans to help one of the Ancients escape, and has been plotting for over two millenia. Unknown to him, magickal relics that can stop him have been passed down over generations. A girl named Alex Roivas, whose grandfather was murdered on Rhode Island, is about to uncover the story piece by piece.

As Alex you must move around the Roivas mansion solving puzzles and finding chapters to the Tome of Eternal Darkness. When you do, you will begin playing as one of many characters dotted throughout history, from ancient Rome to the Gulf War. In each chapter you must gather weapons and move through the setting solving puzzles and slaying the undead enemies in your way. You can find elements to cast magick spells, and each spell helps you in different ways.

As well as watching health, you will also have to watch your sanity meter. This green bar depletes every time you come up against an enemy, and can only be refilled if you slay them. If the bar runs low then your character may start hearing voices, or seeing blood on the walls, and if it runs too low then the effects of madness will take over temporarily.

Eternal Darkness was originally planned for the N64, but the game was largely rewritten for the GameCube after Nintendo made Silicon Knights a second-party developer.
