A group of animal-themed robots race around a series of 25 circuits, performing stunts and taking part in minigames to earn Stars. Your performance is ranked based on how many Stars you have accumulated.

Other modes include Poker Race, you have to collect cards that have been placed around the track to make the best hand while racing. There are 10 minigames, each with their own challenges, including dart throwing and bowling.

Excite Bots supports up to 6-player multiplayer over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, or 2-player split-screen multiplayer. Players can place bets on their own performance.
