The sequel to GBA-exclusive RPG Golden Sun carries on from where the first left off. Jenna and Alex escape from the second lighthouse just before it becomes too unstable after the conclusive battle of the last game. Together they set out to light the last two lighthouses - but for what purpose?
You take control of a number of characters each with their own weapons and abilities. You can walk around and talk to villagers, and look for items on the main adventure screen. If you walk into a danger spot though then you will have to tackle random battles. In these you must wear down the opponent's HP with your attacks - and withstand too much damage of your own. If a player falls in battle then they can't be used again without a life-restoring item.
The Lost Age can be linked up with Golden Sun to transfer character data and stats to your new game.
In Lemuria is a fountain filled with turtles and crabs. If you throw coins at them, they change color. This appears to be referencing the arcade Mario Bros., where turtles and crabs would change colour when hit.
This reference also appeared outside of Colosso in the first Golden Sun.
In the beta code for the game, a Golden Sun style Link from The Legend of Zelda series has been found. Using a cheat code device, it is possible to hack him into the game.
