Information

A graphical adventure game for the Nintendo DS, and the sequel to Hotel Dusk: Room 215. Kyle Hyde must solve the mystery of the Red Star at the Cape West Apartments before they are demolished.

Story

In 1980, a year after the events at Hotel Dusk, retired detective Kyle Hyde is fired from his salesman position at Red Crown for negligence of work, and is threatened with eviction from his apartment. He receives a letter telling him to go to the Cape West Apartments and find the "Red Star" before the place is demolished, and upon arriving he believes the building is linked to his father's death.

Gameplay

As with the previous game, the player holds the Nintendo DS vertically like a book and selects options and investigates areas of interest using the touch screen on the right. Kyle can interrogate the people in the hotel, although if he pushes them too far he may get a Game Over. If a line of questioning doesn't seem to be going anywhere, the player can select the new Ignore feature to drop that conversation.

At the end of each chapter, Kyle will recount the events that have occurred in a quiz. If the player completes the quiz, a new chapter is added to the in-game novel, Last Window.

Cameos

Pinkie Rabbit Land Game

Throughout the game are references to Pinkie Rabbit, a cartoon Kyle admits he liked when he was a kid. This series-within-a-series is referenced a number of times throughout the Kyle Hyde and Another Code series, both developed by Cing.

It is possible to win a handheld Pinkie Rabbit game based on the Nintendo Game & Watch games, which were first released in 1980, the year this game is set.

You control Pinkie Rabbit who has to climb up and down ropes in order to collect carrots that hang from flying balloons at the top of the screen and return them to baskets at the bottom. Pinkie Rabbit has to avoid objects thrown by ninjas from the left and right, which includes hammers and pliers from the Game & Watch game Helmet.

In the Last Window Novel, Chapter 5 comments that Kyle won a "handheld gaming device from Japan released in 1980." It is also mentioned that Kyle used the game for a long while as a watch.

In the English translation, look in Kyle's wardrobe and check the suits that are hanging up. Kyle comments:

"I like suits. They're comfy and easy to wear."

This is a reference to a well-known comment made by a Youngster trainer in Pokémon Red & Blue:

"Hi! I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!"

One of the framed pictures shows a lake with a caption underneath it. If you try to read it, Kyle says:

"I can't quite read… Lake… Ju…et? Must be the name of the lake.

This is a reference to Lake Juliet, the setting for the Cing adventure game Another Code: R – A Journey Into Lost Memories.
