Information

Five years after Cipher and Team Snagem were disbanded by two young Pokémon trainers, a cruise ship carrying Pokémon disappears under mysterious circumstances. Shadow Pokémon begin reappearing, and it is suspected that Cipher is active once more. A young Pokémon trainer called Michael, armed with an Aura Reader, advanced Snag Machine, and his buddy Eevee, he sets off to snag all of the Shadow Pokémon and bring down Cipher once and for all.

You start the main game with Eevee, and as you progress through the game you come to learn more of the evil plans unfolding across Orre. Once you are armed with the Aura Reader and Snag Machine, you can identify Shadow Pokémon during trainer battles. By weakening them you can capture them in Poké Balls.

Shadow Pokémon have had their hearts closed, giving them unique powers. They now have a range of powerful attacks, super-effective against all Pokémon except other Shadow Pokémon. As you battle them and care for them, their hearts will open, unlocking more standard attacks and natures. Once their shadow meter has been depleted, you can undo the final lock by taking the Pokémon to the research laboratory or the Celebi Shrine, where they will become normal Pokémon.

There are also Pokémon Stadiums and the famous Mt. Battle, where you can battle through a series of trainers for prizes. Characters and secret areas may also hold items that help you battle or to open new areas of the world.

Cameos

Trainer Comments

Red/Blue Truck

In Quick Battles, sometimes your opponent will say:

"There's nothing under the truck, except maybe a Grimer or a Muk."

This refers to a lone truck found in Pokémon Red & Blue that inspired many fake cheat codes, usually claiming to unlock the 151st Pokémon, Mew.

James of Team Rocket

One of the trainers you face has a Cacnea and a Chimecho, and comments that they know of someone else with the same Pokémon.

This is referring to James, one of the members of Team Rocket from the anime series. During the Advanced Generation series, he also carried a Cacnea and a Chimecho.

Mecha Groudon

Screenshot Required

When the Mecha Groudon launches from the basement, it rises up from the ground through a fountain.

This is spoofing a number of Super Robot shows, popular in Japan. In particular, it is almost a direct copy of the launch sequence in Mazinger, one of the first Super Robot shows.
