A card-reader for the Game Boy Advance that uses a scanner that read dot codes on specially produced e-Reader cards and translate it into a game or other function on the Game Boy Advance.
The original Card-e Reader in Japan did not feature link cable support, but an amended one that allowed for greater compatibility with existing Game Boy Advance and Gamecube games was released in the U.S., and released in Japan as the Card-e Reader+.
The system was never released in Europe, but it was released in Australia. Despite some popularity, support for the system tailed off by 2003, while the hardware itself was discontinued in 2004.
Plans for a series based on the classic Game & Watch were in the works, but in the end just one special edition Game & Watch card was released for the Card-e Reader.

Each set in the NES Classics series contained several cards that all had to be scanned to make a NES game playable on the Game Boy Advance. Three series were released, while a fourth planned series was scrapped.
